Autobots, roll out

Ok, so I saw Transformers yesterday and I was geeking out through the whole movie.  I wasn't the only one as everyone in the audience was pretty much a geeky male.

I feel the movie had a few short comings. It would have been nice to see the Transformer characters fleshed out a bit more.  There was only the slightest hint of tension between Megatron and Starscream.  Otherwise the Decepticons were underrepresented.  But in a way, this may have worked for many viewers as it made them much colder and less human than the Autobots.

My other gripe is in places it was a little too cute for my tastes.  I don't mind comedy relief, but I don't much appreciate cute.  But the cuteness was limited and I did enjoy a lot of comedy used in the movie.

The story also didn't make sense in a couple places.  Why would the army intentionally direct the battle to a densely populated city?  But it also gave a fun explanation as to why Transformers exist.  I don't really remember from the cartoons how they came to existence.

But these issues aside, if you want to see Transformers kicking arse then this is your movie.  I was blown away by the visuals and volume of destruction.  The fighting is beautifully corographed almost like Jet Lee was directing.  The Transformers are extremely acrobatic despite their size.  More than once during the film did I hear someone in the audiance declare, "Fuck, yeah".

How don't know how well this movie has been recieved by critics, it's definitely a hollywood popcorn flick, but it was a lot of fun to watch.  And it looked expensive.
