DA Skin - Column Streams

screenshot_150

This is a simple CSS I created to modify DeviantArt's front page so the 'streams' (Newest, Popular, Prints, Daily Deviation) are organised into columns instead of rows.

Why would I want to do this?
  1. You can see more thumbnails - DA has a fancy script that only displays as many thumbs as can fit in a single row on your sized screen. The smaller your screen, the less thumbs you can see. Displaying the thumbs vertically displays them all.
  2. Each stream gets my equal attention - I always read from left to right which means deviations from all streams will get my equal attention. It's easy to ignore sections when they are in rows.

I don't think what I have created is an original idea. I think one of the early previews of DA v5 had all the deviations listed in columns.

Download the CSS from my DeviantArt page onto your PC and to use it with Opera 9+ simply go to DeviantArt, right click on an empty area of the page and select 'Edit site preferences...'. Then go to the 'Display' tab and click the 'Choose...' button to select the CSS file. Click 'OK' and you are done.

I don't know how to use it with other web browsers, but if you do leave a comment.

Rules: Paragraphs and linebreaks are automatically created (two or more linebreaks create a paragraph). Linebreaks between code tags remain linebreaks. Block tags cannot be enclosed by inline tags. Red attributes are required and green is optional.

Use "&lt;" and "&gt;" for "<" and ">". Enclosing PHP code in <code> tags will highlight the code (i.e. <code>&lt;?php echo 'hello world'; ?&gt;</code>).
