DeviantArt v5 & Opera

I was extemely disappointed that the new DeviantArt (v5) website did not display correctly in Opera.  I appreciate that Opera users are a minority, but with such a popular website I find it difficult to believe that it is too much trouble test your site in Opera and other less common browsers.

There is some JavaScript code that directly targets Opera, but I haven't checked to see if DeviatArt is purposefully sending different HTML to Opera than what it sends to Firefox.  But it doesn't matter because Undertow on the Opera forums has taken the time to create a user Javascript file that fixes the HTML problem and also corrects a bug in Opera where the scroll-wheel doesn't work properly on DeviantArt.  Simply save the JavaScript file in your User Javascript folder (refer to opera:about).

That aside, I quite like the new look of DeviantArt v5.  There are still many parts of the site that still use the old layout and format, but I'll give them a little more time to update those.  I quite like what they've done with the front page though.  The wider you make your browser window the more thumbnails that will be displayed.  If you're using Opera you can zoom out to also make more thumbnail appear.  And I also like that when you click a reduced sized picture it doesn't load a new page, instead it just loads the full sized picture on that same page.  It means I don't have to use my back button as repetitively.

UPDATE: Would you believe the DeviantArt developers have fixed the problem already.  Well, this post was relevant for a few seconds.
