Nintendo DS & Billion 7300G

This week I bought myself a Billion 7300G ADSL2 router and a Nintendo DS Lite with Mario Kart for WiFi gaming bliss.  Unfortunately bliss wasn't the immediate result.

It took about 10 minutes to replace the old ADSL modem on my network with the Billion 7300G and have my network fully operational and my partners laptop connecting wirelessly.  But the DS didn't quite plug-n-play.

Setting up the connection to the wireless network with the DS was easy.  Especially with DHCP.  But when testing the connection I got the error:

Error Code: 52100
Connected to access point but unable to connect to the server.

This had me stumped.  It could connect to my network, but not to the internet, or at least Nintendo's network.  A search on the Nintendo WiFi site revealed nothing.  But after some searching of Google and some forums I found this thread where Acerlyte listed the successful configuration of his 7300G, the key difference that he forced his router to 802.11b instead of 802.11b+g.

It's a bit disappointing that I need to throttle back my entire wireless network to 11Mb/s instead of 54Mb/s just for the DS.  I'm hoping the fault might be with 7300G router and maybe we will see a new firmware version released to correct the problem.

If you're intending to buy a Nintendo DS and a wireless ADSL modem, it may be advisable to seek out a modem that has been successfully tested by Nintendo.

UPDATE:  Good news.  I reported the issue to Billion and I now have my hands on a Beta version of the firmware that corrects the problem.  I'd buy Billion a beer for creating a fix for this so rapidly.  Watch the Billion site for the when the firmware upgrade is released.

Thanks heaps for posting this. Was causing me major distress.

I'll just leave it on 802.11b until either my roommate notices or they release the patch.

Wow, that's great! Just like Tom, I messed around with this for ages and eventually gave up. Do you have any idea if the firmware was ever released? If not, would you be able to send me a copy of yours? My address is jetfire.comettor@gmail.com.

Very much appreciated,
Cheers
