Firefox Myths
I seen on an Opera users site a Firefox button grafftied with "Myths". Seemed like it could be an interesting link. And it was.
Firefox Myths is a webpage that attempts to debunk some the "myths" that have been propagated, mostly by Firefox users. It might come across that the author is trying to make Firefox look bad, but take note of the wording for each myth discussed and it's easy to see that the myths are often exaggerations of the truth.
At times the author could have included a bit more perspective, such as where he cites the number of vulnerabilities for Firefox 1.x and Internet Explorer 6 as evidence that Firefox is not as secure. The security of an application is more than the sum of it's vulnerabilities. IE could have only 1 vulnerability, but so long as 99% of attacks use it, you will still be more secure using Firefox with its 88 vulnerabilities.
But the real point I wanted to get to was the note made under "Firefox fully supports W3C Standards".
Internet Explorer has very good support (81-86%) for the most important web standard, HTML 4.01. In most educational systems an 81-86% would equal a "B" grade and without HTML the World Wide Web would not exist as we know it.
I'm not sure what his point is when saying "without HTML the World Wide Web would not exist as we know it" (duh), but suggesting 81-86% support of HTML 4.01 standards is good because it would be awarded "B" at school is laughable.
I guess if I write a Bluetooth driver that only supports 51% of the bluetooth standard I should be satisfied because it's a pass - it won't work but it passes.
