Free AutoCAD for Students
I don't know how long AutoDesk has been offering this, but I just found out that they allow the latest version of AutoCAD to be downloaded by students for free.
The free download is a part of AutoDesks Student Engineering & Design Community – an online community of students where they can find jobs, discuss projects etc. Your university issued e-mail address is how AutoDesk determines you are a student but they also accomodate students who don't have a university e-mail address by allowing faculty members to send an invite.
Other measures have been used to ensure the software cannot be used by non-students and whilst the software is fully functional, when you print a banner is placed around the border of the print so it's not suitable for commercial work.
