Is DRM-less music all good?
I just read the arcticle on Ars Technica, It's a start: one label offers one album without DRM and at first I thought this was great. I mean, why wouldn't you prefer to buy MP3's over other proprietary DRM-ed music?
But then it occured to me, without DRM how do we know who is an authorised seller of digital music? If I'm buying music I want to know my money is going to the artists and not some thief. And, it might seem stupid, but if MP3 becomes an item with monetary value, what stops people from selling their MP3's on eBay?
I hate to suggest it, but maybe DRM does have a practical function by keeping retailers honest.
