iTunes at last
iTunes is finally available in Australia so I've been having a peak through what's available.
It's kinda strange to see an album broken down into a per track cost. Although one thing I noticed is that whilst Apple is happy to take $1.69 from you for a 20 second track, any track that exceeds 7 minutes cannot be purchased without purchasing the entire album. This seems grossly unfair.
I'm also a little disappointed that it hasn't provided a means to download some lesser recognised albums, or albums that are out of circulation in Australia.
Regardless, whilst I have no doubt this will be an extremely popular service, it's not for me. I'm a collector. Having songs on my PC or on CD-R does not feel like I'm contributing to my music collection. Especially if the music is not in a lossless audio format. And downloading a track from this album and that album is only going to dilute my exposure to music. iTunes and similar services are for the ringtone-generation.
