Microsoft Restricts Australians from Live Services
It seems Microsoft doesn't want Australians to access or read details about many of their new Windows Live services. But their method to restrict us is only partially successful. Access ideas.live.com in Internet Explorer and Australians will only see 3 services list:
- Live.com beta
- Windows Live Mail beta
- Windows Live Messenger beta
Other countries (or at least America) see 11 services:
- Live.com beta
- Windows Live Mail beta
- Windows Live Safety Center beta
- Windows Live Favorites beta
- Windows Live Local beta
- Windows OneCare Live beta
- Windows Live Search beta - mobile
- Windows Live Domains
- Windows Live Messenger beta
- Windows Live Expo
- More Live stuff
It is only partially successful because you can access all these services by using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Conversely you can't access any pages with Opera. Microsoft have made a very deliberate attempt to restrict access to specific services from Australians, even going so far as to redirect visitors to a different page even if they have the complete URL for a forbidden service.
Since I have limited resources I may have jumped the gun on this conclusion, so correct me if you find I'm wrong.
