No Clean Install with Vista Upgrade

Vista "upgrade" drops compliance checking, requires old OS to install

Users who purchase upgrade copies of the aforementioned versions of Vista will find that they can only upgrade PCs that already have Windows installed. KB930985 clearly states: "you cannot use an upgrade key to perform a clean installation of Windows Vista."

Well this is a real shit.  I don't need Windows Vista, but I did intend to purchase the upgrade just for the fun of having a new operating system.  But if I can't do a clean install with the Upgrade version of Vista I really don't want it - and I'm sure as hell not paying for the full retail version when I already own Windows XP.

So I guess I just won't buy Windows Vista.  I don't need it.  I guess I should thank Microsoft for encouraging me not to spend money for the sake of something new.  I'll still get to play with Vista at work.
