Reliable file transfer from Humax PVR
I've owned a Humax PVR-SMART for over a year now. It's done it's job pretty well. Since purchasing a HD LCD TV I've noticed the colours of the PVR-SMART, compared with the TV's built in tuner, is a little dull. Other than that, the only other gripe I have had with the PVR-SMART is reliably copying video's off the PVR-SMART to my PC.
Some people may not know, but the harddrives in a PVR is normally different to the harddrive in a PC in that it doesn't have the error checking feature. This is because it's primary purpose is to record a broadcast stream and if an error does occur in a chunk of the data, it can't re-request that chunk. The down side to this is that errors can be introduced to the video as you copy it from the PVR to your PC without you knowing. The file transfer over USB is incredibly slow so it can be very frustrating to find glitches in the video and have to retransfer it again.
Introducing Humax Media Controller:
This software is an MS Windows console application to control all aspects of the Humax PVR9200T [PVR-SMART] PVR device attached to a host PC via a USB interface. It isdesigned to replicate the functions of the existing Humax Media eLinker V2.1software and to add a few extra functions that users may find useful.
This primary focus of this software is to provide for more reliable video file transfers via USB from the Humax to a Host PC.
The software is a command line application without a GUI, but it's pretty simple to use. Even if the software can't reliably get the video across, it will at least inform you that an error did occur.
