For the last week I've been fragging away my free time playing WarRock, a free, beta, online, multiplayer, war FPS similar to Battlefield 2. It's obvious from the quality of the product that it will eventually require a purchase — although at this point there are limited maps, vehicles and weapons.

My only gripe is the lag. You will frequently watch your opponent drop dead then you'll drop dead from slow bullets — or the other way around. Sometimes this can be funny, for example, when you drop a grenade between two guys, it explodes, they run and a few seconds later spring up into the air. Other times it can be frustrating when you try to enter a vehicle and it doesn't seem to work, so you run off then suddenly teleport into it. Or worse you can't get out of it when it is about to explode. But this isn't always the case, and if you are prepared to accept it as a part of the experiance, you'll have a lot of fun and there is no reason to not try it.

For the adventurous there is also the Korean version which includes extra modes, maps and vehicles (planes, helicopters, boats). Apparently the Korean version is always a few features ahead of the international version. I haven't bothered to try it myself, yet.

A friend has been hassling me to buy Battlefield 2 and join his clan. Not because I ownz, but because he wants me to run the clans website. I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy Battlefield 2 but after finding myself behaving like FPS Doug during intense WarRock action, I've layed down the cash and am waiting for Battlefield 2 to arrive from Europe ($20 cheaper to import it).
